Blood Bound Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a new book review to share with you today. One of my goals for 2021 is to read the entire Mercy Thompson series, so here I am with the second book in the series..... Blood Bound. This wildly popular world created by Patricia Briggs has so many elements that I love. There are various creatures including vampires, werewolves, fae, and one skin walker. This tale is told in the first person by our main protagonist Mercedes Thompson (Mercy). Mercy has he ability to shift into coyote form and she's a one of kind (as far as we know). Mercy continues to be brave, relatable, down to earth, endearing, and more than a little stubborn. I believe it is these qualities that attract her small but loyal band of friends across the supernatural spectrum.

Blood Bound is a great addition to the Mercy Thompson series and has wonderful character development and world building. On the character side, we get to learn a lot more about the emotional state of Sam, Adam, and Stephen. Along the way also we get a deeper view into vampire hive politics and the vampire psyche in general. The action, violence, and gore are cranked up in Blood Bound with a homicidal demonic vampire on the loose. The content in this one is a little more hard core and our characters are put in various life threatening situations. Trigger Warning: this is an adult book and there are instances of violence, kidnapping, torture, and abuse depicted.

Blood Bound is set in a modern day Washington State surrounded by magic, making the world building feel familiar and foreign all at once. Overall this is quite an enjoyable read and I am very excited to read book three! This is a series and as such I recommend reading the books in order. This gem published by Ace is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Blood Bound 4 out of 5 gems. If you like realistic protagonists, demonic vampires, lonely werewolves, paranormal politics, plot twists, and action, then go read this book! I'm really looking forward to continuing on with this series. Happy Reading!
