Blood is Another Word for Hunger Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a new spoiler free book review to share with you today. Blood is Another Word for Hunger by Rivers Soloman is an inventive take on a slave revenge story. This story deals with the the rage, anger, strengths, and weaknesses of human beings when pushed beyond their limit. Once you know so much pain, how can you overcome it? Blood is Another Word for Hunger recently nominated for the 2020 Hugo Award is a short story set in the American Civil War era. We follow Sully, a 15 year old slave, who is so overtaken by her pain, hurt, and anger that she takes revenge on her abusive owners. Her actions tear the veil between the spirit world which leads to a series events that changes everything around her.

This tale is so well written, it pulled me in from page one. Even though it is a short story, we get detailed characters and world building. Yes it is violent, but there is also an undercurrent of hope and humanity throughout. Rivers Soloman has created an absolute violent, dark, and bloody gem. If you are a fan of inventive, dark, emotional, and compelling fiction, then go read this book! This gem is published by Tor Books and is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Blood is Another Word for Hunger a solid 4 out of 5 gems. Happy Reading!
