Death & Desire Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have an exciting book review to share with you today. Death & Desire by Deborah Wilde is a super fun and delightful read. The second book in the Jezebel Files series, this book is part gritty crime noir, part paranormal drama, and part romantic comedy. With influences from Jewish religion and mythology this series feels fresh and new.

Death & Desire picks up right after the events in Blood & Ash, and is full of twists, turns, action, magic, and monsters. The contemporary Vancouver setting made the world building feel very realistic. I cannot express enough how much I love this world and its characters. I am tearing through the series and am fully invested in the series outcome. The plot is well done and builds on the plot from Blood & Ash but with higher stakes. There are mysteries to be solved, black market magic, teens to save, sexy mob bosses, and an evil corporate conglomerate to take down. You will stay up reading this one all night long. Trigger warning: this is an adult book as such there is adult language and a few sexually explicit scenes.

Death & Desire is a great sophomore novel and a well written character driven story with a diverse cast of characters that I find fun, dynamic, and complex. Ashira Cohen is the best protagonist. She's super sarcastic, snarky, bold, smart, headstrong (sometimes too much), and just plain old awesome. Pria remains the the world's best BFF. I also love the continued sexual tension between Levi and Ashira. They are the best together and I just want it to work out with them. What makes this whole paranormal romance series special is the fact that its not porn on paper. Yes there are sexy scenes sprinkled in, but there is a really good story with loads of action.

Death & Desire is narrated by one person Hollie Jackson. Hollie does a fantastic job of voicing each character. She is able to provide each with a distinct voice and personality. This is especially true with Ashira who needed a super sarcastic tone to make her character's quirky humor come through. Each person felt authentic, and through Hollie's narration I experienced several laugh out loud moments. The narration is done at a great pace, it never feels too slow or too fast. This was a joy to listen to and I can't wait to read more stories in this series!

If you are a fan of snarky heroine's, noir thrillers, sexy scenes, and magic, then go read this book! This gem published by Te Da Media is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Death & Desire 4 out of 5 gems. Happy Reading!
