How To Date Your Dragon Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have an entertaining new book review to share with you today. How to Date Your Dragon by Molly Harper is a new adult paranormal contemporary novel, and the first book in the Mystic Bayou series. How To Date Your Dragon introduces readers to Mystic Bayou, a secluded small town nestled in the swamplands of Louisiana. What makes this town special, is its mix of supernatural and human residents, who have been living together harmoniously for generations. How To Date Your Dragon was a cute, entertaining read for me. I shouldn't be surprised. I love Molly Harper's writing style. Her stories always have a wonderful mix of humor, drama, love, mystery, and sexy times! I can't wait to continue on with the series. This story was initially released as an Audible Original, but you can also get it in paperback and ebook format.

How To Date Your Dragon follows anthropologist Jillian Ramsey, who works for the League of Interspecies Cooperation. Jillian is sent on assignment to Mystic Falls on a fact finding mission to discover how the residents of this town have managed to co habitat for so long and actually thrive. The Leagues hope is that it can get information that will aide other "secret" towns to be as successful as Mystic Falls.....before the existence of supernatural society is made mainstream. I love the world that Molly Harper has created here and need more! Her imagery is so vivid and detailed, I can picture each character in my mind. There are paranormal creatures of every type. Dragon....check, Were Bears...check, Sprites...check, Mermaids...check, Phoenix's....check, Witches....check. You name it, it's in this world, and living in this town! There is just enough information provided to make you want to learn more about each creature.

We also get some good character development and a sense of the community dynamics of Mystic Falls. This first book focuses on Jillian and Bael who are both likable protagonists. I was a little annoyed with Jillian's decisions at times, but not enough to deter from the story. Bael was just...HOT...literally. I've always been team werewolf, but I dunno, I might be willing to switch to team dragon! Harper does a good job of making you feel the growing tension between these two with each chapter. Please note: this is an adult novel and there are several steamy, sexy scenes.

Now this book does have some consistency issues, and discrepancies in the story itself. The sex scenes although tastefully done, felt a little forced, like they were thrown in at the last minute. There is also an element of mystery in this book, which took a little bit of a backseat to some of the other things happening within the storyline. That prevents this from being a 4 star read for me. BUT, it was an enjoyable read, so I encourage you to give it a try.

If you like romance, magic, mysteries, paranormal creatures galore, and humor go read this book! Published by Audible Originals, How To Date Your Dragon is available for purchase now. I give How To Date Your Dragon 3 out of 5 gems. Happy Reading!
