Imprudence Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a book review to share with you today. Imprudence by Gail Carriger is the second book in the Custard Protocol series. We follow the adventures of Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama aka Rue. This is a series and as such I recommend reading the books in order. Imprudence takes place immediately after the events in Prudence. One other note there are heavy tie ins to the events in Timeless from the Parasol Protectorate Series. You can read this series as a stand alone, but to get the most out of the characters and events, you really should read the Parasol Protectorate series first and then Prudence.

Imprudence is a great sequel to Prudence. The character development is fleshed out for a lot of the main players. I'm really excited about a possible relationship between Prim and Tasherit. Rue is not my favorite character which is a little problematic since she's the main protagonist. I find her painfully selfish and obtuse at times. I hope that will not continue into the next two books. But all of the antics of the ragtag crew of The Spotted Custard more than makes up for her deficits. I especially love little Spoo.

With Rue now 21, officially independent, in hot water with the Queen after her antics in India, and her protected status revoked..... the stakes are even higher. Without providing any spoilers, we see a few characters from the Parasol Protectorate series and get closure on three storylines. This is just as much a sequel to Timeless as it is a sequel to Prudence. As such, there were some unexpected and emotional moments. But have no fear, there is also a ton a action and air battles. In true Gail Carriger style, it is all executed with plenty of fashion, manners, mischief, and flair.

Like Gail Carriger's other novels, the world building in Imprudence is extremely detailed and original. We get a more in depth look at life on a dirigible. We also get glimpses of Victorian London and Egyptian life. Trigger Warning: this is an adult book and as such there is an abundance of heavy flirtation, ripped bodices, and steamy sexy scenes.

This gem published by Gail Carriger LLC is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Imprudence 4 out of 5 gems. If you like fashion, tea infused humor, supernatural, pretanatural, and metanatural creatures, friendship, dirigible travel, plot twists, and action, then go read this book! This is my first read of 2021 and I'm looking forward to continuing with this series. Happy Reading and Happy New Year!
