Moon Called Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a new book review to share with you today. One of my goals for 2021 is to read the entire Mercy Thompson series, so here I am with the first book in the series..... Moon Called. This wildly popular world created by Patricia Briggs has so many elements that I love. There are various creatures including werewolves, vampires, fae, and one skin walker. This tale is told in the first person by our main protagonist Mercedes Thompson (Mercy). Mercy has he ability to shift into coyote form and she's a one of kind (as far as we know). I found her character to be relatable, down to earth, and endearing. I believe it is these qualities that attract her small but loyal band of friends. I also liked each of the supporting characters especially Warren and Adam.

Moon Called is a great start to the Mercy Thompson series. I love that the focus is on werewolves which are my personal favorite supernatural creature. But we get a view of pack politics from someone who is an outsider looking in. The world building is modern and detailed but vague enough to age well and be relevant at almost anytime. The action and intrigue are handled well and I was kept guessing until the end. Overall this is quite an enjoyable read and I am very excited to read Book two! This is a series and as such I recommend reading the books in order. Trigger Warning: this is an adult book and there are instances of violence and abuse depicted.

This gem published by Ace is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Moon Called 4 out of 5 gems. If you like realistic protagonists, coyotes, werewolves, pack politics, fae, vampires, plot twists, and action, then go read this book! I'm really looking forward to continuing on with this series. Happy Reading!
