Shadow and Bone Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a new book review to share with you today. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo is a wonderful epic fantasy. I have heard so many great things about this series and had this book on my to be read pile forever. Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! Lets start with the cover, I love it! The stag image foreshadows a major plot point in the story.

Shadow and Bone is an extremely well written character driven story. The world building is absolutely amazing. You immediately find yourself immersed in the magical and mysterious Ravka universe. Leigh Bardugo has created a complex and incredibly detailed magic system. We follow orphan Alina as she discovers she is no ordinary human and more powerful than she ever imagined. This new found knowledge has her trying to figure out her place in this world and navigate manipulations from various people who all want something from her. There is also a love triangle and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing who can really be trusted. Alina was a likable character, but painfully naive. There were a lot of times that I wanted to scream in frustration at her.

If you are a fan of intricate epic fantasies, unrequited love, and magic and mayhem then go read this book! This gem published by Henry Holt and Company is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Shadow and Bone 4 out of 5 gems. I cannot wait to read more stories set in this universe. Happy Reading!
