Star Wars: The High Republic A Test Of Courage Book Review

Hi Gemmies, I have a new book review to share with you today. Star Wars: The High Republic A Test Of Courage by Justina Ireland is a fun quick read. This story follows a group of teenagers (Jedi and Civilian) who have found themselves stranded and fighting for survival after an explosive situation. One note: This book takes place after the events covered in Light of the Jedi. I read the books out of order and recommend you read them in order. But, there are only a few mentions of Hetzal in this book and not enough to confuse to confuse readers.

Star Wars: The High Republic A Test Of Courage is one of the best middle grade level books I have read in a long time. No surprise here, as it is written by one of my favorite authors..... Justina Ireland. This book is geared towards younger readers, but don't let that discourage you from reading it. There are plenty of elements to appeal to children and adults. I found the characters to be flawed, real, and relatable. I am especially fond of Vernestra and Imri. through their eyes we see the Jedi philosophy seamlessly woven into the storyline. Each is forced to confront truths about themselves, and we see the impacts of following both the light and dark sides of the force. I can see these new characters quickly becoming fan favorites for children and adults alike.

The world building in Star Wars: The High Republic A Test Of Courage is great and our characters find themselves marooned on an uninhabited forest planet. The planet is lush and dangerous complete with acid rain! There are also mentions of other planets in the Star Wars universe that fans are familiar with. There's even a mention of Batuu! The story is geared towards ages 8 -12 but there are some very adult situations covered. The storyline itself may be a bit complex for readers on the younger end of that spectrum. Trigger warning: There is violence, anger, and human and animal death depicted.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, like Nihl attacks, lightsaber action, struggles between light and dark, cute forest creatures, and action...go read this book! Published by Disney Lucasfilm Press, Star Wars: The High Republic A Test of Courage is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Star Wars: The High Republic A Test of Courage 4 out of 5 gems. Happy Reading!
