The Ninja Daughter Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a new book review to share with you today. The Ninja Daughter by Tori Eldridge is an adult murder mystery full of martial arts goodness, corruption, and political intrigue. The Ninja Daughter is full of thrilling page turning action and pulls you in right away. But, trigger warning, The Ninja Daughter deals with sexual assault, rape, violence, and domestic violence. The plot was well paced and exciting with realistic details of L.A. that made you feel like you were transported there. Some very real topics like dealing with grief and trauma, family, political corruption, rape and domestic abuse are addressed. The way each topic is handled takes this book to the next level. It was not hard to find myself fully immersed in this gritty world.

The Ninja Daughter is also an extremely well written character driven story with a diverse cast of characters that I found to be believable, complex, dynamic, and relatable. I absolutely loved our main protagonist Lily Wong aka Dumpling. The daughter of Chinese/Norwegian parents and a real life ninja, Lily felt like a breath of fresh air. She is super snarky, funny, sarcastic, strong, but also vulnerable as she deals with the lingering grief from loosing her sister. The friendship between Lily and her father is also very sweet. I loved that all of their interactions contained delicious food descriptions. Food porn at its best! All throughout The Ninja Daughter we get a lot of information on martial arts, and Chinese and Norwegian culture. All of this lends to the authentic feel of the overall story.

If you are a fan of the gritty crime dramas, revenge and redemption stories, snarky kick ass heroines, and martial arts action then read this book! Published by Agora, The Ninja Daughter is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give The Ninja Daughter 4 out of 5 gems. I cannot wait to see what adventures Lily gets into next. Happy Reading!
