Hello Gemmies! I have an entertaining book review to share with you today. June is here, and along with the warmer weather, is what I like to call Sea Monster Reading season. There is nothing better than sitting on the beach reading a great sea monster tale. I absolutely love sharks so of course I started this sea monster season with The Meg Series by Steve Alten. This review is for The Trench the second book in the Meg Series. This scientific horror fiction was a lot of fun to read!
The Trench continues the tale of the now captured Carcharodon Megalodon (aka The Meg). We are reunited with the characters from The Meg a Tale of Deep Terror as they deal with the aftermath of events from Book One. Steve Alten has expanded on the world he created in The Meg A Tale of Deep Terror as we are also introduced to a slew of new characters including a goatee stroking billionaire megalomaniac, a Russian femme fatale, and murderous hired thugs. This story is full of espionage, spies, murder plots, science facts, pulse pounding action, new sea monsters, and you guessed it...more bad guys you root for The Meg to eat! Now I must put a disclaimer in, Is this book over the top? Yes.....but that's what makes it a perfect guilty pleasure read. There was more espionage than shark action and that is keeping me from making this a full 5 star review.
If you love killer sharks, prehistoric sea monsters, espionage, and deep sea adventures go read this book! Published by Pinnacle, The Trench is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give The Trench 4 out of 5 gems. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Happy Reading!
