Timeless Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a book review to share with you today. Timeless by Gail Carriger is the fifth and final book in the Parasole Protectorate series. We continue to follow the adventures of Alexia Maccon. This time with a baby and even higher stakes. This world of intrigue, steampunk, manners, and the supernatural is such a delight. I found myself completely transported and reluctant for it to end.

I love historical fiction mixed with the paranormal, so Timeless was right up my alley! Timeless has some intense action, humor, steampunk gadgets galore, and some romance. If you are in need of some laughs, like deadly mechanical animals, strong female leads, flamboyant vampires, worrisome werewolves, plot twists, and light romance....this book is for you. This is a series and as such I recommend reading the books in order. Timeless takes place a few years (approx. two) after the events in Heartless. Alexia has given birth to a meta-natural baby girl named Prudence. While Alexia is engaging in this installment she was not as relatable to me especially with the lack of maternal instincts. Her bestie Ivy has also given birth to twins. Ivy is just delightful and goes through an incredible character arc. We have our other cast of supporting characters that I love. Everyone receives a thorough story conclusion with the exception of Felicity and the rest of Alexia's terrible family. I would have really liked to have seen them dealt with for their terrible actions. There was a mention of what Felicity's fate will be, but i'd like to have seen it play out within the story. We also get answers to questions that have been open throughout the series.

Like the other novels in this series, the world building in Timeless is extremely detailed and original. We get glimpses of Victorian London life as well as travel to Egypt. For the steampunk lovers, there are gadgets, including a rideable mechanical ladybug. As always, my favorite part of this series....the paranormal elements are extremely well done. We get a more in depth look into Alexia and Conall's marriage. It's not often that we get to see marriages weather as many storms as these two and work out. They always find their way back to each other. We learn a lot more about Biffy and Lyall both who I adore. Through them, we learn a lot more about werewolf politics and life in general. The romance is not overdone and helps to elevate the storyline. Trigger warning this is an adult book not YA so there are some adult sexy situations and innuendos. There are also plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing throughout. This was a satisfying end to a wonderful series. There were also some unexpected moments that made me cry. I absolutely love this series and I think you will too.

This gem published by Gail Carriger LLC is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Timeless 5 out of 5 gems. If you like tea drinking, mummies, vampire queens, dirigibles, mechanical ladybugs, plot twists, love and heartache, sensitive werewolves, action, and intrigue then go read this book! I'm sad to be at the end of this series, but look forward to reading more stories set in the Parasolverse. Happy Reading!
