Witches of Louisiana Book Review

Hello Gemmies! I have a new audiobook review to share with you today. Witches of Louisiana by Natasha Jarrett is a fun fast read. This original story about witches descended from West Africa is unique and creative. I enjoyed it immensely. There is literal Black Girl magic and excellence, action, history, and steamy scenes.

I wish the story was longer and a bit more fleshed out. But there is a great foundation there. I hope the author continues to write more stories set in this world. I liked the premise and the idea of racism and violence against African Americans by an evil magical race as a plot point. It also moves this into the speculative fiction territory. This is an adult book and there are a few erotic scenes. They weren't needed to move the story forward. It didn't bother me just trigger warning for those who prefer their fiction sans graphic sex scenes.

Witches of Louisiana is narrated by one person Jennifer E. Cullins. Jennifer does a good job narrating. Her voice is expressive and her pacing is great, but man her Louisiana accent was painful! It almost detracted from the story.

If you are a fan of elemental magic, beautiful Black Women, ancestors, and sister circles, go read this book. Published by NJN Publishing, Witches of Louisiana is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give Witches of Louisiana 3 out of 5 gems. I'm looking forward to reading more stories set in this universe. Happy Reading!
